Over the summer the Baldwin Wrestling program lost a valued member and a valued friend.  Ray Ostermeyer's smile and kind words of encouragement were known to every wrestler and parent, from the smallest on the youth squad through the Varsity.   It has been decided by the Wrestling Board that the Youth Novice Tournament will be renamed in honor of Ray.  Please continue to keep Linda, Luke, and Will in your thoughts and prayers.

BWYWA seeks to instill in the youth of the community ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, reverence, and the basic fundamentals of wrestling so that they may be finer, stronger, and happier youth who will grow to be good, clean, healthy adults.  This objective will be reached by providing supervised instruction in basic wrestling fundamentals, combined with an acceptable amount of controlled competition.  The supervisors will bear in mind at all times that the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or the winning of competition/matches/meets is secondary, and that the molding of future citizens is of prime importance.  The element of competition, though it exists, is controlled to the point that it does not determine the nature of the program and is kept at the “readiness” level of elementary/intermediate youth.  BWYWA further seeks to encourage a wide and intelligent interest in the sport of wrestling in the Baldwin-Whitehall community and to assist in the promotion of all phases of the wrestling program.
